What Newcomers Need to Know

Bright Lights is a service program that teaches kids about helping others through regular visits to a local nursing home. We are always looking for new members of all ages. This page tells you all the information you need to know to join Bright Lights. This document assumes you have already read either the paper flyer or the Bright Lights Brief.

Special Note: Over the years, we've discovered that kids who attend with good friends (not just siblings) tend to get the most out of the program. It is also helpful for carpooling. Consider recruiting classmates of one or more of your children for the program.

Program Requirements

• Any age child is welcome but children under first grade must be accompanied by an adult to each prep session and nursing home trip. Please discuss possible exceptions with Gail.
• Snacks:Parents should sign up to bring snacks 2-3 times a year, depending on the number of families participating. Guidelines for snacks can be found here.
• Craft Supply Donation: Parents are asked to make a donation towards the cost of craft supplies and thank-you gifts. The suggested donation is $10-$20/child for the school year. No one has EVER been turned away for lack of funds.

How to Join

• Email Gail Grant to sign up with the following information:
  1. Each child's name, birthdate, gender
  2. Parent's name, cell phone, mailing address
  3. Acknowledgement of the program requirements

  All program communication is electronic, through an email list. Once you have sent the info to Gail, she will confirm your membership in the group and add you to the email list.
